Ski Rando Race Gear
Thanks to being inundated with questions about ski rando race gear all winter, we put together a short video to explain what I’ve learned racing in Europe. I am by no means an expert, but I was immersed in the Euro race scene all season and managed to do well in some races, including the famous Sellaronda.
The goal of this video is to introduce Americans to the gear used in Europe. From what I have seen in parts of the US, the interest is soaring – yet everyone asks…… “What gear do you use and where do we get it?”
Hopefully this video helps – Bear with my awkwardness, I am used to being on the other side of the lens.
Ski Rando Race Retailer
Thanks to Mountain Gear for the help last season ! Check out what they have to offer rando racers for this coming winter – they will be your source.
Ski Mountaineering Information
Also, the United States Ski Mountaineering Association’s website is the place to head for race info and additional links for all things Ski Mountaineering Racing.

Thanks, Dan! Maybe we can get one of these going in the eastern Sierra this winter.
I was wondering where I can find the sling for sticking your skis on your back?
I looked on mountain gear but couldn’t find it.
Thanks,
Mark

The one I use is built on the Dynafit pack. Maybe check in with them for a retailer. When you find it can you post again here with where you got it? Good luck.
Great video. What kind of shirt and pants are you wearing?
Author
Thanks Mike, my pants are Dynafit and the shirt is from a phenomenal Italian mountain sport brand called Montura.
Montura is truly phenomenal ! Their gear is perfectly thought out and practically intended for the actual task without unecessary bells and whistles.
BTW do you have any experiece with their SkiSky insulation jacket ?
Author
Nikolas,
Which is the SkiSky?
I agree, best overall mountain clothing I have seen.

I’ve tried it on at a shop but I’m seeking some practical experience on its warmth/weight ratio and whether its form fitting design is sufficient for general mountaineering use.
Author
My mistake… Yes, of course I have used it but thought the name was different, I own two, my wife one, it is without a doubt the best synthetic jacket I have used. Form fitting, lightweight, and the hood is absolutely designed perfectly. It isn’t so warm, but considering the weight of the jacket, and if layered properly, it is ideal for skiing or doing anything active in icey temps.
Cool !
You should visit the Greek mountains for some great ski mountaineering ! 🙂
