Making of the Run the Alps Switzerland Trail Running Guidebook, 2017
The summer and fall of 2017 was almost entirely consumed by the production of our trail running print guide to the Swiss Alps, Run the Alps Switzerland. Janine, Kim, and I immersed ourselves in the project, living in the car, moving around the Alps, and running way more than the 30 runs that ended up in the book. The runs had to be perfect, and so a few got what we termed the “gong,” which meant we had to run more. Some we did more than a couple times to dial in the route or to get the best images.
This was also the first big project we did with Kim who would go on to become a major part of our business and partner at ALPSinsight: The Alps Mountain Sport & Trail Running Resource.
For its simplicity and graphic lines, this is a favorite image from the entire project and one that has seen a lot of use.
Camera: Sony a6500
Posing Scale: 5 – Dialing in this image to make it perfect took some effort by both myself and Kim, who had to run up and down this overly steep flank of the Jazzilücke more than a few times.
